Week 15 - Winter continues...

Winter continued here for a few days anyway.
We actually had a full day of continuous snowfall.
I was able to capture at least one view out of my window, then it melted again. And then it snowed again. And then it melted again.
Hence, a couple of views with snow and a couple without as is our winter this year.

Week 14 - Fat Brush

One of the aims of this daily painting venture was to loosen up.

I was trained as a Technical Illustrator so I love corners, angles and precision but that is not how I want to paint these. This week I forced myself to use only a ½” brush. On a large canvas this is no big deal but on 8x10” it definitely gave me no option other than “loosening up.”

Children's Guide To Knowledge

Children's guide of knowledge - link

As an aside to my daily paintings, I came across this interesting link as I was searching for the illustrator of a children's book and thought it was worth a look.

I have a copy of the referenced book copyright 1963. I received it in 1968 so it is a newer version than the one Nan posted but the picks are the same. Mine is missing a few pages - I probably used them for a school project somewhere along the way - shame on me.  I have added a couple of different images below.

I always loved this book but I can't find any references as to who the illustrators were. If anyone know, please advise.

Week 13 - Made up

Ok – so the snow only lasted a couple of days and then it started raining again.
I decided to forgo trying to find a real scene to paint and just made up a bunch of rural fields in my head. It gave me a chance to do whatever I wanted and use any colours I liked. I did have fun with it.

Week 12 - Winter

Wow – I can’t believe this week I hit painting number 50. It has been much more difficult than I imagined to force myself to paint this regularly. I have always painted quickly but where I used to find larger canvases daunting – these little 8x10’s some days stress me out.

Our crazy weather has given me the opportunity to see days that are bright and sunny and gloomy and rainy, but not much snow.

Since I only painted my first winter piece earlier this year I was hoping to work on that a bit more. As much as I am not a fan of winter driving, I was hoping to get some snow so I could tackle winter as a subject. Luckily this week we got at least enough for me to go out and get some reference and give it a try.
